Bangkok may be the most vibrant metropolis in South-East Asia. Its charm is accessible to anyone who is not put off by its busy atmosphere. Bangkok demands that visitors dive in and enjoy the lifestyle of South-East Asia.
Bangkok is a captivating, fascinating and dynamic city with countless places to see, terrific shopping malls, a diverse and exciting nightlife, and thousands of restaurants. Since traffic is usually standing still, it is better to take the Skytrain and remain above street level. Even there, expect crowded platforms full of people shoving to board the cars.
Siam’s new beginning.
Large parts of Thailand fell under Burmese rule during the eighteenth century. After the destruction of the former Thai capital, Ayutthaya, a handful of men under the leadership of General Tak Sin went in search of a new place to establish the government of the kingdom. In 1772, they settled on Thonburi, a small town on the west bank of the Chao Phraya River. The little town was built around an important temple. The site was well protected by the river and hastily erected land walls. Tak Sin expanded the temple complex into the royal temple of Wat Arun, in honour of the goddess Aruna. Wat Arun survives today as the landmark of Bangkok.
An inglorious end.
Tak Sin ruled the Kingdom of Siam with an iron fist for ten years. Years of war transformed him into a merciless despot. He saw himself as Buddha’s successor, and demanded to be worshipped as a god. This led to rebellion and to his execution on 6 April 1782. In accordance with time-honoured custom, he was placed in a sack and beaten to death, because royal blood could not be allowed to spill on the earth.
A city of temples.
Following Tak Sin’s death, Bangkok was founded anew as a different city on the opposite bank of the river. King Rama I used the old capital of Ayutthaya as a model for the construction of his new residence. There he built the Royal Palace and the Royal Temple of Wat Phra Kaeo, named after the statue of the Emerald Buddha, which Rama commanded be brought here from Wat Arun. Today, this is Thailand’s most revered image of Buddha. The area around the Royal Palace is the historic centre of present-day Bangkok, Canals, called khlongs, used to wind through and around the new capital, and much of the city’s commerce took place directly on the water. Nearly all of the khlongs were filled in during the twentieth century to allow for the expansion of the city.
All of Bangkok’s busy streets and wide boulevards were originally canals. The first bridge over the Chao Phraya River, the Memorial Bridge, was dedicated in 1932, joining Thonburi with the constantly expanding city on the opposite bank. The last of the khlongs with their colourful floating markets can still be found in Thonburi.
The face of the Bangkok metropolitan district, known as Krung Thep Mahanakhon in the Thai language, was mostly modernized in the 1980s, when an explosion of construction of high-rise buildings and skyscrapers forever altered the cityscape. The Skytrain now weaves its way through a concrete and steel jungle, with only the occasional glimpse of a golden stupa or ornately decorated palace to remind the visitor of Bangkok’s glorious past.

The question has often been asked as to what kind of hair can be finger-waved successfully. Some hairdressers believe that all kinds of hair may be so treated—straight, naturally curly, and permanently waved; in fact, any kind of hair except very coarse, thick hair. It has been the author’s experience, however, that fairly straight hair must be slightly inclined to curl; unless there is a slight wave or inclination of a natural wave, however good the following setting or finger-wave may be, it is not possible for the wave to stay in the hair for more than a day or so. Although it’s very rare, occasionally a client with this type of hair will ask for a finger-wave, and in these instances we recommend you try and persuade your client to go for a permanent wave. However, should the hairdresser happen to encounter this type of hair during his routine of work, the use of combs is recommended, by means of which quite a pleasing result can be obtained; but in no circumstances whatsoever should combs be used upon permanently waved hair, as the hardness of the waves obtained through inserting combs will spoil the nicest of coiffures, and the work will thus become considerably depreciated.
A very important point which is often ignored, is the ends; the side-pieces in particular, which are usually left in a clubbed condition, and therefore are never finished gracefully and neatly. The ends, or side-pieces—in fact, any of the hair on the head—needs to be carefully thinned or tapered. It will then be noticed that the ends will curl much more easily, and which then will mould themselves nicely to the head, thus keeping their curl much longer. This is vitally important factor, and finger-waving should never be started until the ends are properly tapered or thinned.
Clean hair is much easier to work with, Dirty hair is harder to set and also takes much longer to dry. After the shampoo, rub the hair well with a rough towel, so that the hair remains only just damp. This is important, not only from the setting point of view, but also for the client’s comfort. If the hair is made too wet, it is likely to drip down the client’s face and neck, which is obviously something to be avoided. After adjusting the parting, sprinkle or spray the hair with a good setting lotion. Some operators are of the opinion that the lotion helps to set the hair better and more easily. This is entirely erroneous; its main advantage is that the finger waves become dry much more quickly and provides at the same time the advantage of an additional sale.

As I’m sure you’re aware, the correct style of mixer taps can improve the overall look of a kitchen. And, whether you’re just updating the mixer taps themselves or carrying out a complete kitchen revamp, opting for the best mixer taps to enhance your decoration is of the utmost importance.
With the choice of styles and finishes on the market nowadays, you’d think that locating the correct one should be a breeze. However, you could be bowled over by the quantity of choice or, if you have an older sink, compatibility issues may, very well limit your choices in some way.
Side Bar: If will be simply updating your existing tap but not the sink itself, then, you’ll need to find a tap assembly, which is going to sit in the sink’s mounting-hole(s) and if your sink is quite a few years old and has two holes, you will need to measure the distance between the hole-centres. Once you’ve done this, you may discover that your choices are somewhat restricted. This happened to me and I had to kiss goodbye to all the modern styles.
When you have isolated what will and won’t fit your sink, the next task is to select a style. If your kitchen décor is very modern, you will probably want something that has a more up to date look; possibly with a brushed finish. However, if your kitchen is more traditional, then, one of the more classic styles with a buffed brass finish may be more suited.
There’s one more consideration to take into account: how much you want to spend. Please don’t make the same mistake I made a few years ago and spend your hard earned cash on a cheap, imported mixer tap. The one I bought looked splendid when I removed the box but a couple of years down the road when the thing started to fall into pieces, I wished I had spent more and got quality.

When people prepare to camp outside and under the stars, tents are constantly number one on the list. Tents have turn out to be a crucial part for open-air living to shelter us from the elements and parasites. Throughout centuries, nomadic tribes from different continents and eras used tents to settle down on lands they found to sustain their basic needs.
The Native Americans were a group of tribesmen who are renowned for using tents. The Great Plains all over the United States were not at all times permanent grounds for the animals the Indians hunted to survive. Moving the tribe was crucial and Indian tents called tipis provided their tribes shelter.
Indian tipis were constructed from everyday materials the Indians used such as leather from deers and bison. Indian tents were simple to assemble and disassemble. It was put together by a number of poles and ropes and provided adequate space for inhabitants to put other necessities therein. Perhaps the best qualities of an Indian tent is its sturdiness, staying dry during heavy rains, and give insulation by giving warmth during winters and cooling during summers.
The yurt is another good example of a large tent and was/is used by early and present Mongolians. Yurts are probably the most intricate of all kinds of tents because of the way they are built. In contrast to Indian tents, yurts are much bigger and can provide shelter to dozens of people including their pets. The infamous Mongol leader Temujin was born, grew up, lived and died in a yurt tent.
Modern tents of today come in different forms and dimensions and most distinctively, made from modern materials. A simple 1 man tent consists of poles, a fabric, stakes and guy lines. The structure of this type of tent resembles a house’s roof.
Different types of tents come in a variety of features and uses. Tents that can be carried on a person’s back are branded as backpack tents. Carry-on tents are popular among hikers who often hike on mountains and spend most of their time in the wilderness. There are different kinds of backpacking tents. Few of which them are one-person tents, dome tents, family tents and tarp shelters.
One-person tents are prevalent among individual campers and hikers because they are light-weight and quick to assemble.
Dome tents have a more modern look than traditional tents and they come with more bendy poles made of new composite materials and their the doors can be opened and closed by a zipper. It could shelter 1-2 persons depending on its dimension.
The much larger family tents are more popular to big sets of campers who wish to spend time together under the stars. Some have single skin and some have double skins. Inner and outer skins are usually made from natural and man-made fabrics such as cotton, nylon, and microfiber. Just like the tipis made from hides of the Native Americans, modern tents made from these materials are also breathable.
The presence of tents is always likely for people who spend their time outdoors. For the rugged outdoorsman, tents will continuously be an crucial piece to achieve protection, privacy, and portability.
